College Football Playoff: 3 Biggest Surprises from Week 15 rankings
3. Texas enters top 25 ahead of undefeated Colorado
This 2020 College Football season has been tough for all teams. It has been tough for the Texas Longhorns (20th) as they have shown to be wildly inconsistent throughout the season.
The Longhorns barely survived a 63-56 win over the UTEP Miners in their second game of the season. They followed that up with two consecutive losses to the unranked TCU Horned Frogs with a 33-31 score and an unranked Oklahoma Sooners team with a 53-45 score. Two games later, the Longhorns beat the No. 6 Oklahoma State Cowboys with a 41-34 win on Halloween.
One week after the 23-20 loss to the Iowa State Cyclones, the Longhorns dominated the Kansas State Wildcats with a 69-31 score.
The most surprising aspect is the spot where the Longhorns are ranked as they are placed at 20th in the nation by the College Football Playoff Committee. They are ahead of the one-loss Raginā Cajuns, the one-loss No. 24 Tulsa Golden Hurricanes, and the undefeated No. 21 Colorado Buffaloes (4-0).
The Buffaloes do not have the likely scenario to reach the College Football Playoff, but they are undefeated. Colorado also has a better strength of schedule (28th in the nation) than the Longhorns (43rd in the nation). The Buffaloes have had two of their games canceled already as they will play their final regular-season game against the Utah Utes this Friday night.
