Nebraska football is hoping to build on its win last week with another against Minnesota and here are bold predictions for the Huskers and Gophers.

The season hasn’t necessarily gone as planned for Nebraska football or Minnesota. The Golden Gophers started the year in the top 25 and both teams were viewed by some as contenders in the Big Ten West division.

But as the two teams get set for their matchup this Saturday in Lincoln, both teams are under .500. Nebraska football comes into the game with a 2-4 record but the Huskers do have momentum following a win over Purdue and a strong showing against Iowa.

The biggest development has been the play of Adrian Martinez at quarterback. The carousel stopped spinning last week and Martinez excelled.

Purdue’s defense isn’t a juggernaut, but Martinez was still 23-of-30 for 242 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 45 yards, two scores and didn’t turn it over. Luke McCaffrey attempted one pass and ran the ball some and he should still have a role, but this is Martinez’s team again.

At least it looks that way and he could make it much more so with another win on Saturday.

Both Minnesota football and Nebraska still have hopes of reaching a bowl game. The Gophers are 2-3 and have split their games after a season-opening loss to Michigan.

P.J. Fleck’s team has turned it around and also beat Purdue in its last game against the Boilermakers a couple of weeks ago.

So it’s very a much a momentum game and one that could decide who gets a bowl berth, assuming there are any bowl games left to play in.

Without any further ado, here are three bold predictions for Nebraska and Minnesota.
