After a shocking blowout loss to the North Carolina Tar Heels, this Miami football season feels empty. What’d we learn from the blowout?

Miami Football had a lot to play for on Saturday. A win would have all but secured a spot in the New Year’s Six for  big time bowl game and Miami would have had a chance to finish in the top 10. All of that is now out the window after a disgraceful performance at home against the North Carolina Tar Heels and now I’m struggling to find good things to take away for Miami from this season.

Miami has been unable to get people to take them seriously this season because of their light schedule and the way that they looked early in the season against Clemson.

This was the second best team that Miami has played this season and it was over before you knew it. It is one thing to get blown out by a team and program like Clemson, but to get blown out by a team that has losses to Florida State, Virginia, and allowed Wake Forest to hang 53 on them, has to be disheartening for a program that is itching to return to glory.

All of Miami’s biggest flaws were exposed badly in this game. The run defense has struggled all season because of a lack of talent and development at the linebacker position and North Carolina had their way with Miami all game long, with both Javonte Williams and Michael Carter having huge days on the ground.

Miami committed untimely penalties and could not tackle North Carolina’s running backs all day. It was also a disappointing day for the Miami pass rush, as they could not get hardly any pressure on Sam Howell.

Here are the three takeaways from Miami’s blowout loss to North Carolina.
