Top 25 teams have only a few more chances to impress the College Football Playoff selection committee. Here are the latest rankings projections for Week 16.

College football limped closer to the finish line of the 2020 regular season in Week 15. Four of the top five teams in the most recent set of Top 25 rankings from the College Football Playoff selection committee were idle on the second weekend of December, two by design and two due to a spike in COVID-19 cases for their respective opponents.

Eight of the top 12 teams and a dozen Top 25 teams in total were on the sidelines over the weekend. It made for a rather quiet Saturday in terms of the rankings.

Two teams hovering among the final few spots of the rankings fell in their regular season finales, and will likely drop out of the Top 25 when the selection committee meets again for their penultimate list of teams. No. 21 Colorado fell by 17 at home against Utah to drop from the ranks of the unbeaten, while No. 25 Missouri suffered their fourth loss of the year against Georgia in one of just two Top 25 matchups over the weekend.

Coastal Carolina nearly fell into a trap at Troy, but escaped with a late score to win by four and become the first 11-0 team in 2020. Miami lost their battle to lower-ranked North Carolina, falling in a decisive defeat that will send them downward but not completely out of the College Football Playoff committee’s hierarchy of teams.

Once the sun went down across the country, the risks for highly-ranked teams went off the charts. No. 6 Florida and No. 15 USC found themselves in danger of suffering losses to rivals at halftime. Despite clawing back to contend in the second half, one team was undone by an opposing kicker. The same nearly happened a few minutes later in real time on the opposite side of the country.

As a result, there will certainly be some shuffling around the rankings this week, with a couple of new undefeated teams joining the list for the first time this season. Click ahead to read the latest projections of the College Football Playoff Top 25 from Saturday Blitz.
