Already locked into a spot in the MAC championship game, Buffalo played their way into the College Football Playoff Top 25 this week with a 56-7 demolition of Akron. The victory took the Bulls to 5-0 in the standings, allowing them to remain perfect. With everything else that happened around college football this week, look for the selection committee to consider Lance Leipold’s team for a spot at the bottom of their rankings.

Buffalo didn’t even need a huge game from Jaret Patterson, who ran for 105 yards and two touchdowns in the first half. With only six days between the season finale and the  before sitting out the rest of the game. Kevin Marks Jr. stepped up and led the way on the ground with 182 yards and two rushing touchdowns of his own. The Bulls defense held Akron to only 204 total yards of offense in the blowout in New York.

It will be tough to squeeze their way into the Group of Five discussion for the automatic New Year’s Six berth given the MAC played fewer games than any other league. But Buffalo will come to Detroit as a heavy favorite against Ball State, and has a chance to win their first conference crown since 2008. If Patterson is back in for a full 60 minutes, watch out.
