BYU Football: 3 Thoughts on Cougars, UCF and Boca Raton Bowl
An 11-win season
Believe it or not, the BYU football team hasn’t won 11 games in a season since 2009 and this is a golden opportunity for this group to put a stamp on a memorable 2020 season.
The Cougars didn’t get to play their normal schedule this season, which generally includes a number of power-5 opponents due to those conferences not playing non-conference games, so they didn’t get to play many marquee games.
There was the matchup against Boise and also Coastal Carolina, which was a great game but this bowl game will be another chance for BYU to showcase itself and build on this momentum heading into 2021.
Often times, bowl games are won by the team that is more motivated, so BYU can’t allow UCF to be that team. Winning 11 games would be a huge achievement and capping the season with a win over a solid program would make it feel that much better.
Plus, the Cougars are currently ranked 14th and with a win, they would likely earn their first top-15 finish in the AP poll since 2009 and only their fourth top-15 finish since 1994.
So there is plenty at stake for BYU football next week in the Boca Raton Bowl as the Cougars hope to end the 2020 season on a high note.
