The Blitz podcast crew previews college football’s championship weekend and examine the subjectivity of the playoff committee’s rankings.

The long winding road of the 2020 college football season, littered with hurdles and landmines, is nearing its conclusion as we head into a strange conference championship weekend that shares the calendar with numerous makeup games around the country.

We’re just a week away from finding out the four college football playoff teams, though the committee rankings have been as subjective as ever, ignoring the group-of-five darlings like Cincinnati and Coastal Carolina in favor of power-five teams with warts all over their resumes.

It’s tough to rationalize how Florida could drop only one spot in the committee’s rankings after a loss against a 3-5 LSU team at home while undefeated Cincinnati dropped a spot while sitting idle.

Iowa State has jumped all the way up to No. 6 despite losing its first game of the season by 17 points against Louisiana. The committee continues to show that they are much more concerned with revenue rather than fairness. It’s hard to see how a four-team playoff will ever have the inclusiveness the sport needs.

That’s where this week’s podcast gets started, examining the contenders for the College Football Playoff while discussing if a group-of-five team will ever have a realistic shot at getting a seat at the big boy’s table.

In our final segment, as usual we pick some games against the spread. This week we take a look at each conference championship game and offer our prognosis on the outcome and where you would be wisest placing your wagers.
