Nebraska Football: 3 Husker signees who’ll have instant impact
Nebraska football signed a top 25 recruiting class in 2021, even though it ranked seventh in the Big Ten and here are three who’ll have an instant impact.
As far as the rankings go, it wasn’t the best recruiting class for Nebraska football coach Scott Frost, but there’s still a lot of like about this 2021 haul.
Nebraska football’s early signing day was very quiet as all 19 of the Huskers commitments were done and signed by 10 am. Yet, there are some real reasons for excitement especially with the addition of four-star tight end Thomas Fidone.
The Huskers signed just three four-star prospects, while the other 16 are of the three-star variety. But Nebraska football has to find those diamonds in the rough and hopefully, they were able to do that. In terms of next season, Nebraska is need of help and here are the signees who have the best chance to make an immediate impact.
Thomas Fidone
It’s not like Frost hasn’t landed some high-ranking four-star recruits during his time at Nebraska football, but landing Fidone is clearly one of his signature achievements on the recruiting trail.
Most of the teams in the Big Ten wanted him and the Huskers were able to steal him away from Iowa, as the kid is from Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Fidone is 6-foot-5, 225 pounds and he’s an elite pass catcher. He’s a move tight end and even though he’s ranked No. 2 in the 247 sports composite rankings, he’s ranked No. 1 overall in the 247 specific rankings.
He’s right up there with Wan’Dale Robinson in terms of really good gets and he’s the kind of player that could go to any program and have a chance to play right away.
At Nebraska, where the offense needs more playmakers to emerge, Fidone should make an immediate impact. Thinking about Robinson, Zavier Betts, Oliver Martin and Fidone is pretty exciting and should help Frost get this offense cranking at a high level.
