College Football 2020: 5 bold predictions for Championship Weekend
2. Oklahoma dominates Iowa State in Big 12 title
Much like the Buckeyes in the Big Ten, the No. 10 Oklahoma Sooners (7-2) have been dominating the Big 12. The Sooners have won the past five consecutive conference titles and now reaching for their sixth on Saturday. The Sooners will take on the No. 6 Iowa State Cyclones (8-2) in Arlington, Texas.
The Sooners and the Cyclones are coming in with some of the top defenses in the Big 12. Oklahoma’s defense ranks 29th in the nation in points allowed per game (22) and 12th in total yards allowed per game (298.2). They are more efficient at stopping the run as they are the fourth in rushing yards allowed per game (89.2), which will be tough for Cyclones running back Breece Hall to break through the defense.
The Cyclones’ defense ranks 27th in points allowed per game (21.3) but they are 64th in the nation (seventh in the Big 12) in passing yards allowed per game (217.6). Oklahoma’s offense ranks 10th in the nation in passing yards per game (313) due to the caliber of freshman quarterback Spencer Rattler. This will be a game that helps Rattler mature as a pocket passer playing a much efficient defense.
Oklahoma’s also looking for revenge against the Cyclones when it lost to them in Ames on Oct. 3. Oklahoma goes into this game as a 10-point favorite and it should very likely eclipse this.
