On college football’s Championship Weekend, no one is safe. Everyone is on upset alert this weekend but these teams could be in serious trouble.

If you’re good enough to make it to a conference championship game, is a win really an upset? In some cases this weekend the answer is no.

Although not all conference title games this weekend have playoff implications, it’s still the most important non-bowl weekend of the year. This especially holds true in a season with very limited non-conference games.

In fact, too many are glossing over this weekend and going straight to Selection Sunday. With all the talk about who should be in the College Football Playoff, it’s taken away from the importance of this weekend. To even be in the playoff, this is as close to a must-win scenario as you’ll have all season. I left a slight caveat because the selection committee has in the past put non-champions in the playoff. But right or wrong, the ability to say you’re the king of your conference still has a lot of meaning.

This week’s upset alert will be a little different. We’ll be looking at all ten conference championship games this weekend to see what has to happen for each team to pull the upset. We’ll also look at whether an underdog win would really be an upset.

As a bonus, non-championship games with upset potential include Nebraska against Rutgers, Wisconsin against Minnesota and Arizona State against Oregon State.
