Oklahoma Football: 3 Takeaways from Big 12 title win over Iowa State
By Andrew Tineo
Oklahoma football no longer praying for stops on defense
It was the unit that saved the game and what could get Oklahoma over the hill of being a legit CFP championship contender. The Sooners have been known for amazing offenses and less than stellar defenses. That was not the case as Oklahoma led the conference in scoring defense, over the past eight weeks. Oklahoma ranks fourth in the country in run defense.
There is a reason why Oklahoma has been the best defensive unit in the conference. Oklahoma came into this game with the most sacks on the season and had excellent games from Nick Bonito and Brian Asamoah. They were apart of the secondary’s success with takeaways, with the pressure the front seven brought.
Breece Hall came inNo.2 in the FBS with over 1,300 yards. He played his worst game of the season on Saturday. Hall finished with 79 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries. He had only one other game under 100 yards on the season, when he got 97 yards in a win against Baylor.
The best part was the secondary for this team. Even with giving up 322 yards, they forced Purdy turnovers and defended the big bodied targets of Iowa State. Norwood, Fields, and Brown all added one and had their offense out of rhythm.

The Sooner faithful won’t be celebrating a CFP appearance this season and didn’t get a Heisman candidate this season. However, they will get a chance to finish their season with positivity and yet another NY6 bowl win.
