Ole Miss Football: 3 takeaways from heartbreaking loss to LSU in finale
2. Matt Corral had one of the weirdest games ever
In true 2020 fashion, Matt Corral had one of the weirdest performances of any quarterback this season.
The sophomore quarterback has broken out this season under Lane Kiffin and has been one of the best the SEC has to offer and the offense has excelled under his leadership. But every so often, Corral has one of those games that has everyone scratching their heads.
This was one of them.
Corral threw five interceptions for the second time this season (the first coming against Arkansas) which was odd given that LSU’s defense has been really bad. These were his first interceptions since Oct. 24, so this isn’t exactly a trend for him, just an outlier.
But what made this game really weird was the fact that he had three touchdown passes with 251 yards through the air and led all runners with 158 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. On one hand, he was the reason LSU took a big halftime lead and on the other, he was the reason the Rebels stormed back in the second half to take a 48-40 lead.
Over 400 total yards and four touchdowns would normally be incredibly impressive, but those five picks put a damper on things. This game was typical 2020 for the young quarterback.
