Auburn football’s head-coaching search didn’t go as planned but they wound up with Bryan Harsin from Boise State and here’s why he will succeed.

Auburn football‘s search for a head coach didn’t necessarily go as planned, but it’s not always about the process, it’s about the end result.

And even though Bryan Harsin of Boise State may not have been No. 1 on the wishlist for Auburn football fans, he’s going to be a good hire, if the report from Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports turns out to be true.

Sure, stealing away Steve Sarkisian from Alabama would have been nice and Billy Napier from Lousiana was someone lots of people wanted. It’s never great when coaches turn you down and hiring Sark away from Saban and Bama would have been perfect.

But Harsin was going to get his opportunity sooner rather than later and here’s why he will be a solid hire for the Tigers.

He’s an offensive guru

Over the years, Auburn has won a lot of games having a really good offense and Harsin should be able to continue that trend. He was a top assistant under Chris Petersen when he was the head coach at Boise State but he’s had success in other places too including in the South.

Here’s what Thamel wrote about the addition:

"“Harsin has a record of 69-19 during his time at Boise State, compiling a winning percentage of more than 78% during his seven seasons. Harsin is a noted offensive coach and developer of quarterbacks, long regarded as one of the West Coast’s top offensive minds.”"

Following a stop at Texas, where he helped the Longhorns make a big leap offensively, he took the head coaching job at Arkansas State and led that program to a conference championship.

The Broncos have consistently had explosive offenses and the program has also turned out NFL talent, which is an important selling point for recruits.
