BYU Football: 3 takeaways from blowout win over UCF in Boca Raton Bowl
In a battle between offensive juggernauts, BYU football had the upper hand. What did we learn from the Cougars’ Boca Raton Bowl win?
I’ll be the first to admit, I expected a tight battle between UCF and BYU in Tuesday night’s Boca Raton Bowl, but Zach Wilson and the Cougars had other ideas.
BYU raced out to a 21-0 lead and then extended that to 35-10 before halftime before added two more touchdowns to that huge lead in the third quarter and never looking back. Dillon Gabriel and the Knights just didn’t have it on Tuesday night, leading to a massively lopsided 49-23 victory for BYU.
Central Florida made a mini run late in the third to the fourth quarter but it was too little too late as even 13 straight points barely made a dent in the deficit.
With the win, BYU improves to 11-1 on the season and maybe the Cougars deserved a New Year’s Six shot.
What’d we learn from the Cougars’ win?
3. Tyler Allgeier might be nation’s most underrated RB
All Tyler Allgeier needed was less than 50 yards to break the 1,000-yard mark on the season and in a shortened year, that’s an incredible feat. Not only did he break the 1,000-yard plateau, he had 173 yards rushing and a touchdown against the Knights, eclipsing the 1,100-yard mark.
We hear all about Breece Hall, Najee Harris and Travis Etienne, but we need to start seeing more respect put on Allgeier’s name.
It’s easy to be forgotten among some of the nation’s top players when you have Zach Wilson as your teammate, but his job is made easier because of Allgeier. This kid deserves all the respect in the world as one of the most underrated rushers in the country.
