Lance Leipold seems likely to stick around

Buffalo football fans were probably worried when Lovie Smith was fired and Leipold was getting mentioned as a candidate there as well as places like Vanderbilt and even Auburn.

But all of those places have moved on and hired other candidates and it seems like the game of head coach musical chairs is stopping for the most part, at least with the kind of jobs that I’d worry about losing Leipold too.

Jim Harbaugh doesn’t seem likely to leave Michigan, which could be good for Buffalo, because if Matt Campbell left Iowa State, it wouldn’t be a huge shock to have Leipold mentioned as a candidate.

Power-5 programs are going to come calling and eventually, he will probably say yes. But that moment looks to be in the future and after losing in the MAC title game twice, Leipold could very well bring the conference championship to Buffalo before moving up to the Power-5.

For now, Buffalo fans should feel pretty good and if Patterson returns, the expectations for next season will be off the hook.
