No. 2 Clemson

Clemson is another team that clearly has a great chance to win the national championship, which would make it two in three years for quarterback Trevor Lawrence and the Tigers.

This will be the seventh edition of the College Football Playoff and so far, Clemson and Alabama are the only programs to have won more than one championship. Ohio State took the other and LSU won last year over the Tigers.

So, it looks like a strong bet that either Clemson or Alabama will wind up taking home a third championship this year. Yet, the Tigers aren’t even a super strong favorite to reach the final game, as I still think that Sugar Bowl is a toss-up.

If you look at the Tigers, they are dynamic on offense. They are also stout on defense and are tremendous at forcing turnovers, which could be the key to victory — turning over Justin Fields.

But Clemson doesn’t necessarily have the overwhelming defensive talent its had in the past. Not a single Clemson defender is going in the first round of the latest 247 sports mock draft, but the same could be said for the Crimson Tide and Ohio State too.

Between those three teams, only one defensive player is projected to go in the first round, which means we could see a lot of points. It’s also why we could see another Alabama-Clemson national championship game.

For now, I’d put the Tigers chances at around 1/3 of walking away with a third title.
