Can Sarkisian build a dominant offense in Austin?

Steve Sarkisian can coach quarterbacks. Sarkisian coached Tua Tagovailoa, and when Tagovailoa left for the NFL, there was supposed to be a drop off in production.

Not only did Tua leave, but the Crimson Tide also lost Henry Ruggs III and Jerry Jeudy. Despite those losses to the passing game –all first-round NFL draft picks, the Crimson Tide had one of the greatest offensive seasons in college football history.

Sarkisian was behind Mac Jones’s development, an undersized developmental recruit, and the improvement of DeVonta Smith at wide receiver.

Texas football fans should be encouraged by Sarkisian’s ability to coach and develop quarterbacks. Sam Ehlinger was a solid quarterback at Texas, but Ehlinger never got better. Ehlinger and the receivers at Texas– all highly-touted recruits–never got better.

It will take time to recruit and develop the type of receivers Sarkisian needs to run the same offense at Texas that was run at Alabama. Texas football did lose 2022 No.1 recruit, Quinn Ewers, to Ohio State, but the Longhorns have four-star quarterback Hudson Card from famed Lake Travis High School.

The Longhorns have some talented four-star receivers on their roster; Herman did not leave the cupboard empty.
