Sarkisian has the resources to go with the know-how to run a program.

Sarkisian has never won more than nine games as a head coach. It is safe to say that the former Washington and USC head coach has learned since his last head coaching job in 2015.

Sarkisian has been very open and proud of his sobriety, and there is little doubt that the former BYU quarterback learned a lot sitting under the Nick Saban coaching tree.

The biggest difference between this opportunity at Texas and Sark’s prior stops at Washington and USC is program health. Texas has loads of talent. Herman signed three top-ten recruiting classes while head coach.

Both the Huskies and Trojans were not healthy programs, with Sarkisian took over. The Trojans were still reeling from the sanctions due to the Pete Carroll era, and the Huskies were getting past what Rick Neuheisel did.

Herman raised the floor and of the program and improved the recruiting. Herman is unemployed because it did not take the next step and become a College Football Playoff contender.

The cupboard is full, and Sarkisian has every opportunity to succeed. It will be interesting to see how much of the Saban formula Sarkisian takes to Austin. Given time, Sarkisian could turn the Longhorns into a contender.
