Tom Herman

This might seem a little crazy, but I’ll be honest, Herman was the first name that came to my mind. Obviously, he would need to decide if he even wants to coach next year and certainly, he will get some head-coaching opportunities sooner rather than later.

But right now, there’s not much in terms of jobs opening up. Boise State is open and maybe he could make a play for the job there. However, if I was him, I’d try to get work as Saban’s offensive coordinator.

It’s been a job that’s guaranteed to get you promoted within a couple of years and after his experience at Ohio State, Houston and Texas, if he did well with Saban, Herman would be a hot commodity again in no time.

Herman is 54-22 overall as a head coach and he was 32-18 at Texas. He won all four of his bowl games including a Sugar Bowl win over Georgia, so it’s not like he was a bad head coach. Take that resume and add a year or two of working under Saban and he’ll get just about any job he wants.

Plus, it would be great for the Tide because Herman has always been a dynamic offensive mind and even at Texas, his offenses improved each year in terms of scoring and this year, boasted a unit that scored 42 a game, good enough for 8th in the country.
