Alabama Football: 3 realistic candidates to replace Steve Sarkisian as OC
Alabama football is losing offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian after the national championship which opens up great candidates for the position.
On Saturday, the Texas Longhorns fired Tom Herman after four years as head coach and hired Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian to be their next head coach.
This leaves Nick Saban to search for another major assistant head coach for the fifth time in six seasons. Sarkisian continued to accelerate the Tide offense with Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones at quarterback. They have been near the top of college football in scoring and total offense. Tagovailoa, Jones and DeVonta Smith have been named Heisman Trophy finalists in the past two seasons at Alabama.
Sarkisian was hired as the Tide’s offensive coordinator after two seasons at the same position with the Atlanta Falcons. Much like Lane Kiffin before him, Sarkisian was hired on as a rebounding session by Saban. The Tide have become a program that will hire coaches recently fired to help rebuild their coaching careers and resumes under Saban.
There are plenty of options that the Tide can hire as their new offensive coordinator. Saban has stated that he has already looked into recently fired NFL coaches to take over after the national title game. That will be the last game for Sarkisian before leaving to be the head coach of the Longhorns.
Here are three realistic options for the Crimson Tide for their new offensive coordinator.
