After an unbelievable performance in the semifinal against Clemson, Ohio State football enters the national championship game as an underdog to Alabama.

Ohio State football seems to be peaking at the right time and that would not be the first time that has happened in the College Football Playoff.

During their championship run in 2014, the Buckeyes shook off an early-season loss to Virginia Tech and got hot at the right time and was able to pull off a big upset against Alabama in the semifinal. There are similarities to that season and Ohio State is hoping that they can pull off another upset of the Crimson Tide and win another national championship.

Much like in 2014, Ohio State is very talented, but until the semifinal against Clemson, they have not played up to their talent level and it almost cost them games against Indiana and Northwestern. The Buckeyes’ offense has as much talent as anyone other than Alabama and it was on full display in the Sugar Bowl.

Justin Fields had an unbelievable performance against Clemson, in which he threw for nearly 400 yards and had six touchdowns. It was an all-time great performance and it might take a similar performance from Fields if the Buckeyes look to take home their first national championship since the 2014 season.

Alabama has gone through this season without being challenged for the most part. Florida gave them a slight scare in the second half of the SEC championship game, but Alabama has been on cruise control for much of the 2020 season. The offense is one of the best in college football history and boasts three of the top five Heisman finalists, including the winner in wide receiver DeVonta Smith.

Alabama is a nightmare matchup for anyone and it will take the best game of Fields’ and Ryan Day’s careers if they hope to bring down the Crimson Tide.

Here are three reasons why I think Ohio State could beat Alabama on Monday night.
