Unable to overcome injuries and Alabama football’s juggernaut of an offense, the Buckeyes fell to the Crimson Tide in the national title game.

It is difficult to keep up with Alabama’s offense. Yes, there is an argument to be made that this is the best single-season offensive performance in college football history exceeding LSU’s 2019 performance.

Compound with coming into the game with two of the best defensive linemen on the team unavailable to play. That was the Buckeyes’ plight.

Early in the game, running back Trey Sermon sustained a collar bone injury and missed the rest of the night.

Master Teague came in and played admirably; ultimately, the Buckeyes could not keep pace with the Death Star that is the Alabama offense. Simply, it was their night. The Buckeyes had no answer for the Crimson Tide offense. Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith had 12 receptions for 215 yards and three touchdowns, most of which came in the first half. He would leave the game early in the third quarter with a broken finger.

Mac Jones set a playoff record with over 460 yards passing against a defense that had no answer for what the Crimson Tide wanted to do offensively.

The Crimson Tide defense stepped up and played one of their best defensive games of the season, limiting quarterback Justin Fields to just 5.9 yards per pass attempt.

Congrats to the Crimson Tide on winning another national title.

Here are three takeaways from the game.
