College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 final rankings
By Zach Bigalke
Oklahoma is going to get a huge bump in the final AP Top 25 rankings as they close out a 9-2 campaign in the top five. The Sooners won their last eight straight in a weird 2020 season where they started the year 1-2, finishing strong with a 55-20 rout of Florida in the Cotton Bowl. That New Year’s Six showing by Lincoln Riley’s crew will bump them up three or four spots. As a result, Oklahoma is due to finish at least in the top six for the sixth straight season.
Spencer Rattler threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns in the victory, outdueling Heisman finalist Kyle Trask at AT&T Stadium. Rhamondre Stevenson led the Sooners on the ground with 186 rushing yards and a touchdown. Marcus Major joined Stevenson in triple digits, ripping off 110 yards and a score on just nine carries. Oklahoma’s defense picked off Trask three times, and the Sooners outscored the Gators in all four quarters.
The comprehensive showing by the Big 12 champion will put them right back among the favorites in 2021 to compete for a spot in the College Football Playoff. After three straight semifinal losses by progressively increasing margins of defeat, Oklahoma finally got its first bowl win under Riley and set themselves up to aim once again for the top four next season.
