2021 NFL Mock Draft: First-round projections after national championship
There are varying opinions on Jaylen Waddle’s draft stock but all are consistent in believing that he’s a first-round talent despite the injury he suffered this season.
Some have Waddle going in the top 10, some even have him as the best receiver coming out of Alabama this cycle (I think that’s blasphemy), but I see the talented junior going near the middle of the first round.
And a team in the middle of the first round needing a wide receiver just so happens to be the Patriots. It’s odd to see them drafting this high up, especially after Tom Brady and Bill Belichick turned the organization into a dynasty, but with the all-time great quarterback now in Tampa Bay, the Patriots struggled.
Cam Newton will need some weapons and a speedy, electric receiver like Waddle would be a perfect addition.
Waddle played in just six games for Alabama this season, but managed to catch 28 passes for 591 yards and four touchdowns. He finished his three-year career with just one yard shy of 2,000 and he had 17 total touchdowns. He has serious star potential in the slot at the next level.
