2021 NFL Mock Draft: First-round projections after national championship
There’s rumblings of the need for receivers and running backs for Tampa Bay, but until those positions officially thin out this offseason, I’m not going to believe that those are needs. I mean, you have Leonard Fournette and Ronald Jones in the backfield and Mike Evans, Antonio Brown and Chris Godwin — along with recently-drafted Tyler Johnson from Minnesota — in the receiving corps.
Doesn’t seem like those two positions trump the need for defensive linemen.
Tampa Bay did average three sacks per game during the regular season and had an effective defensive line, but there’s a need for depth there.
That’s where Carlos Basham Jr. from Wake Forest comes into play.
Basham Jr. had an impressive career at Wake Forest, recording 35.5 career tackles for loss and 19.5 sacks and he even held a streak of 23 straight games with a tackle for loss which was the longest in the nation — it was snapped this season.
If Basham Jr. played on a better team throughout his collegiate career, we may be talking about him as a top-10 pick.
