After a step forward in 2020, Miami football returns a lot of experience to its two-deep and will look to take another step in 2021.

Manny Diaz and the Miami Hurricanes have been getting some good news this week, as a number of seniors decided that they wanted to take advantage of the extra year of eligibility that was given to players that participated in this past season.

The Hurricanes will have a host of contributors back this season and the roster and the two-deep depth chart will look similar as to what it did last season.

Miami ended the season poorly with losses to North Carolina and Oklahoma State in the bowl game and those games had highlighted some issues that the roster had all season. As a program that’s still building, Miami lacked depth in 2020, but that should improve in 2021 with a top-15 recruiting class coming in. These seniors coming back will give these recruits a year to develop and that is how championship programs are built.

Diaz has a reputation for getting contributors out of the transfer portal every offseason and so far in 2021, the Hurricanes have gotten three guys who should be starters next season. Deandre Johnson is a defensive end transfer from Tennessee and he led the Vols with 4.5 sacks last season. With Jaelan Phillips and Quincy Roche leaving for the NFL, Johnson will be counted on to lead the defensive line.

Two other transfers that Miami landed were surprise entries to the portal. Oklahoma receiver Charleston Rambo has been a starter for the last two seasons for the Sooners, but decided he wanted to spend his last collegiate season in Coral Gables.

The big get for Miami is Georgia defensive back transfer Tyrique Stevenson who almost chose Miami when he came out of high school and was slated to be a starter for the Bulldogs in 2021. He decided to come back to south Florida instead and will be an instant impact player in the secondary for the Hurricanes.

Miami has a talented roster and here is how I think the two-deep depth chart will look in 2021.
