Quarterback

Starter: D’Eriq King
Backup(s): Tyler Van Dyke (2), Jake Garcia (3)

It would be hard to understate the impact that D’Eriq King had on Miami. He was one of the best quarterbacks in the entire country and should enter the 2021 season as one of the Heisman Trophy favorites. Despite King tearing his ACL in the bowl game, he is expected to be ready for fall camp and Miami will need him for the season opener against the defending national champs.

The battle for the backup job will be one to watch and will be even more important given King’s injury. Last year’s backup, N’Kosi Perry, decided to transfer out of the program and the other quarterbacks on the roster include redshirt freshman Tyler Van Dyke, true freshman Jake Garcia, Tate Martell, who transferred to the program from Ohio State two years ago and Peyton Matocha.

I think that Van Dyke has the edge over Garcia because of his experience in the system. Van Dyke and Garcia should battle it out in 2022 to see who leads the program in the future.
