Nebraska Football: 5 bold predictions for Huskers in 2021
The 2021 season will be a make or break year for Nebraska football and head coach Scott Frost and here are five bold predictions.
The bottom line is that for Nebraska football coach Scott Frost, the 2021 season is do or die. The Huskers need to show some real progress or it might be time to find a new head coach.
It’s obvious that Frost undertook a massive rebuilding project when he took over for Mike Riley, but few Nebraska football fans thought we would be going into year four, still waiting for Frost to deliver a winning season.
Injuries, especially to quarterback Adrian Martinez haven’t helped and likely cost the Huskers a bowl game back in 2018. But for other failures, the Huskers have nowhere to look but in the mirror.
There have been moments of progress and the 2020 season ended with a nice win on the road at Rutgers. But too often, Nebraska football hasn’t been able to build on success.
It will play well against rival Iowa, but will be unable to finish the job. Or, following a nice win at Purdue, Nebraska turns around and loses at home to Minnesota.
The consistency will be key but there are reasons for optimism heading into 2020. Martinez closed the season strong and he will be back as the starting quarterback.
While the Huskers lost Wan’Dale Robinson to Kentucky in the transfer portal, a number of veterans on defense have decided to return and NU landed a top wideout in the transfer portal and that’s where we start our 2021 bold predications — Samori Toure.
Toure isn’t Robinson, but he will push for1,000 yards
Samori Toure is a name Nebraska football fans should remember, because they are going to hear it a lot in the 2021 season.
When Robinson left for Kentucky, it was a gut punch. He said he wanted to be closer to family and that’s understandable, but still, Nebraska football’s most exciting weapon just walked out the door.
Still, the addition of Toure from the University of Montana is a big one. In 2019, Toure was an All-American at the FCS level after catching 87 passes for 1,495 yards and 13 touchdowns.
He’s 6-foot-3, 193 pounds and within hours of putting his name in the portal, Florida State, Miami and Oregon had made contact according to the Lincoln Journal Star.
Toure won’t be the only weapon, but Nebraska has a big need at wide out and he’s someone who will be able to make an impact immediately. It’s also why I believe he will lead the Huskers in catches, touchdowns and yards in 2021.
Now, here are the other four bold predictions for Nebraska football including a stab at the record.
