Ohio State Football: Way too early 2-deep depth chart projection
After coming up short in 2020, Ohio State Football will look to reload and make another run at the national championship in 2021
It looked like the Big Ten was going to sit the 2020 college football season out amid the COVID-19 pandemic and Ohio State football was going to miss out on a chance to make a run at the national championship.
The Big Ten did decide to return to action and that gave the Buckeyes the chance that they needed and they took full advantage of it. It was not always pretty, but Ohio State overcame issues and if it were not for an all time great Alabama team, the Buckeyes might be national champions.
Ohio State is one of those programs that does not have to really worry about a rebuilding year, as the Buckeyes recruit at a very elite level and they should have guys ready to step up.
The big question that is on the minds of college football fans everywhere is how Ohio State will manage to replace star quarterback Justin Fields. Fields might be the greatest quarterback in school history and his talent and leadership is unquestioned. Ohio State has talented guys waiting in the wings and Ryan Day is one of the best quarterback coaches in the country.
Other early departures included running back Trey Sermon, offensive linemen Wyatt Davis and Cornerback Shaun Wade. Sermon was playing as well as any running back in the country by seasons end, but with Master Teague back, Ohio State should be fine on the ground.
As much as it might hurt to lose those guys listed, the Buckeyes also had some big time players decide to come back. Wide receiver Chris Olave coming back means that Ohio State should have the best wide receiver room in the country next season. Jeremy Ruckert had some big catches in the playoff and defensive tackle Haskell Garrett will be back to lead the defense.
Ohio State should be a playoff contender once again next season and this is an early look at how I think their depth chart will look next year.
