Penn State Football: Top 3 recruiting targets left in 2021 for Nittany Lions
As far as Penn State football is concerned, the 2021 recruiting class was a bit of a disappointment. At least it has been so far.
It’s not that the Nittany Lions haven’t added talent players. They have. But as we are less than a month away from the late signing period, Penn State football has just 16 players signed as part of its class. But most notably, there isn’t a single running back or defensive tackle in the group.
James Franklin and Penn State were able to sign five four-star recruits but only one ranked in the top 100. Currently, the Nittany Lions have the sixth-best recruiting class in the Big Ten in 2021 and the 23rd class overall.
As rough as the season started for Penn State, the Nittany Lions were able to close strong and there’s reason for optimism with a few key recruiting targets, so PSU could potentially finish the recruiting cycle with some positive momentum too.
As I said, there are some very real needs and here are the top three targets left to address them in the 2021 class.
Davon Townley, 4-star defensive end
One name to watch for the Nittany Lions is that of defensive end Davon Townley, a recruit out of Minneapolis, Minnesota. He’s 6-foot-6 and listed at 225 pounds and without any four-star defensive lineman in the class right now, he would be a nice addition.
Townley is ranked 19th at his position according to 247 sports and is 325th overall. He’s a kid that’s raw but he has some nice pass rush potential and even though he has one crystal ball projection to Arizona State, this could be a Penn State-Nebraska battle according to 247 sports Mike Schaefer ($).
And it’s one that Penn State could really stand to win. Here are two other recruitments to watch as the February signing date approaches.
