20. Alabama Crimson Tide – Big Al

The Alabama Crimson Tide have no logo on their helmets or jerseys so Big Al serves as the official mascot for the historic football program. The elephant dates back to 1930 when a sportswriter referred to the Alabama team as elephants after hearing the loud rumble from the team as they came on the field.

The name stuck and officially made its debut at the 1980 Sugar Bowl. Over the years, Big Al continues to dazzle fans in attendance with his antics and leading cheers that can be heard for miles to come.

Of course, it sounds like maybe Big Al was jealous of Florida’s Albert and Alberta or something as lately, he’s joined by Big Alice at certain events. Is a tag team wrestling match at halftime coming soon in the future when these two teams meet again?
