30 Best College Football Mascots of All-Time
7. Texas Longhorns – Bevo
Bevo made his first appearance for the Texas Longhorns in 1916 and could have actually been a mascot that might not have made any sense. Back then, the Texas Longhorns originally had a pit bull instead of a Texas Longhorn steer.
Thankfully, those in charge knew that if you’re going to represent The Lone Star State, it’s all about steers. How different would we view the program if the school stuck with their original mascot of a pit bull?
Through the years, Bevo’s burnt orange coloring and longhorns have given credence to the fan base’s “Hook ‘Em Horns” saying that is synonymous with saying hello in this beautiful state. Bevo is easily the most recognizable college football mascot ever.
