Gus Malzahn

Lebby makes a lot of sense and has the support of fans and others close to UCF football. But the Knights don’t have an AD right now and for a program that many see as being close to SEC caliber, why not go for a former SEC head coach?

During his eight seasons as Auburn head coach, Malzahn won an SEC championship, the SEC West twice, played for the national title and never had a losing season. Even last season, he led the Tigers to a 6-4 record before being fired.

Malzahn would be a flashy hire, but he would also be a good one. He was calling the plays when Auburn won its national title with Cam Newton at quarterback and he also had a successful stint as Arkansas State head coach, posting a 9-3 mark there in 2012.

How many other head coach candidates are available, with multiple wins over Nick Saban and an SEC championship on their resume? Not many and my guess is that even though it’s not a Power-5 job, Malzahn would jump at this chance and it’s easy to see him winning big at Central Florida.
