The Florida State football team struggled under first-year head coach Mike Norvell. Here is their report card for the 2020 season.

The 2020 season was a difficult one for Florida State football. To start, the pandemic shut down spring and summer practice for every team in the country. The lack of spring and summer ball was especially difficult for Florida State since the ‘Noles were beginning the season with a new head coach and coaching staff.

The Seminoles did get a few practices during spring before the pandemic, hardly enough to install a new offense, defense, and culture.

In addition to the lack of offseason practice and workouts, the Seminoles had to deal with injuries and opt-outs as well—all of those translated to a lack of continuity on the field this past season.

No position was more volatile than quarterback. Florida State played four quarterbacks this season as Norvell attempts to stabilize the position. QB1 was not helped with playing behind one of the worst offensive lines in the ACC either.

It was expected the offense would struggle. However, with the defense returning so many potential top 100 picks in the NFL draft, the defense was thought to be pretty good. The opposite was true, however. The Florida State defense was bad last season. Between injuries and just bad play, the defense did the Seminoles no favors.

Norvell and Florida State football have a long way to go, as the Seminoles 2020 report card would indicate.
