LSU Football: Way too early predictions for 2021 schedule
After a disappointing follow up to their national championship season, LSU Football enters 2021 with chip on their shoulder to prove they are still among nations elite teams
LSU Football had a dream season in 2019 and everyone expected a step back after losing so much top talent on the field and losing key coaches as well.
I don’t think anyone could have foreseen the disaster season that was about to incur. It was clear from the first game against Mississippi State that there were going to be issues on the defensive side of the ball after giving over 600 yards passing to K.J Costello. That loss would look worse as the season wore on, with Mississippi State not being a very good team and Costello later getting benched.
The defense would be one of the worst in the country the entire season and that would lead to Bo Pelini getting fired and LSU going back to the NFL ranks to hire their new coordinator, Daronte Johnson, who served as the Minnesota Vikings defensive backs coach and formerly coached with former LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda while they were at Wisconsin. Johnson will have plenty of talent to work with on defense, including cornerback Derek Stingley Jr.
The offense is getting a bit of a makeover as well, as offensive coordinator Steve Enzminger retired and that led to the hiring of Carolina Panthers quarterbacks coach Jake Peetz, who worked under Joe Brady, who was LSU’s passing game coordinator in 2019. Peetz is hoping to bring back some of the explosive plays that LSU lacked last season and Peetz will be tasked with getting the most out of whoever wins the quarterback battle.
LSU finished with the fourth ranked recruiting class this year according to 247 sports and with that talent coming in with the returning talent coming back, it is not hard to see why LSU could bounce back in a big way this season.
There will be a quarterback battle between Myles Brennan and Max Johnson this offseason and I think Brennan will get his job back. Brennan was playing well last season before suffering an abdominal injury and missing the rest of the season.
Ed Orgeron can’t rely on the highs of 2019 any longer after the way last season went. LSU has the talent and should be a better team in 2021.
Here are my way too early predictions for LSU’s 2021 schedule.
