2021 NFL Mock Draft: First-round projections after Super Bowl LV
Sometimes it’s tough for college athletes to maintain motivation and continue to play hard when they’re not winning or when their head coach is on the hot seat with a firing pretty much inevitable.
That’s what Jaycee Horn had to deal with in his time at South Carolina yet he still had quite the career.
In fact, he broke out as a freshman with 45 tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks and eight pass deflections. He followed that up with 40 tackles with two tackles for loss, a sack and nine pass deflections as a sophomore. And then he recorded 16 tackles, a tackle for loss, his first two career picks and six pass deflections in seven games as a junior.
Declaring for the draft with his stock at an all-time high was the right move, especially with the uncertainty at South Carolina and the Jets could definitely use some help in the defensive backfield. They’ll address that quarterback situation earlier in the draft which will allow them to either get an edge rusher or cornerback here.
Horn, the son of former NFL star Joe Horn, will be the best cornerback available and potentially a steal at No. 23.
