2021 NFL Mock Draft: First-round projections after Super Bowl LV
Buffalo is right there. For the first time in years, the Bills look like one of the early favorites to win the Super Bowl and they nearly made it to the promised land in 2020 but got tripped up just short of the finish line.
If Buffalo wants to keep pace with the likes of Kansas City in the AFC and make it to the Super Bowl next year, it’ll need to focus on some important positions on the defensive side of the ball such as linebacker, edge rusher or cornerback.
At No. 30 overall, I could see them taking a serious look at a guy like Missouri linebacker Nick Bolton or Miami edge rusher Jaelan Phillips, but Asante Samuel Jr. of Florida State is a safe pick as well.
There’s no doubt Buffalo will be addressing the cornerback situation at some point in this draft, so why not take a chance on one early and hope he’s a boom and not a bust?
Samuel Jr. comes from good bloodlines as his father was a Pro Bowler and he could follow in those footsteps.
Although he’s just 5-foot-10, 184 pounds, he’s a lockdown corner with quickness to stay stride-for-stride with receivers and he’s aggressive. Samuel Jr. also isn’t afraid to step up and make a tackle in the run game. He finished his three-year Florida State career with 97 tackles, four picks and 29 passes defended.
