2021 NFL Mock Draft: First-round projections after Super Bowl LV
As someone who has followed the Lions for my entire life, I can safely say that this draft pick won’t change anything with this organization. Sure, there are better leaders in place now after Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia are gone, but the Lions don’t have any quick or easy fixes. This will be a tough rebuild.
Many fans are hoping Justin Fields falls into their laps at No. 7 but the move to trade Matthew Stafford for Jared Goff could mean that the front office is hoping the former Rams quarterback can hold them over for at least this season.
Goff probably isn’t the quarterback of the future in Detroit and the Lions could still go with Fields or Trey Lance here, but receiver is also a huge need.
Kenny Golladay is a free agent this offseason and many are hoping he re-signs with the Lions but there’s skepticism there. Even if he does re-sign, he’ll need someone outside of Marvin Jones to provide a threat to opposing defenses in the passing game. He needs pressure off his shoulders. Enter, Ja’Marr Chase.
The LSU receiver opted out of the 2020 season but in 2019, he helped lead the Tigers to a national title as Joe Burrow’s favorite target, catching 84 passes for 1,780 yards and 20 touchdowns. The 6-foot-0, 208-pounder could end up being a No. 1 receiver in the NFL and he could provide a heck of a one-two punch with Golladay for Goff.
