Much like the defensive line, Michigan is losing a ton from the backfield, including guys like Zach Charbonnet (transfer) and Chris Evans. Those two were supposed to provide a huge impact on the run game in 2020 but both underwhelmed.

Blake Corum and Hassan Haskins should be back which is good but the backfield needs a true No. 1 workhorse back and that’s exactly what Donovan Edwards can be.

Edwards enrolled early this winter and that’s only going to help him see the field from day one. He’s one of the most electric running backs in the class and this was also a massive recruiting victory for Jim Harbaugh as he held off Notre Dame and Georgia for his services.

The 5-11, 190-pound back from West Bloomfield, Mich., is ranked the No. 41 overall prospect in the class and is the third-best running back in 2021, according to the composite.

If Michigan wants to get that offense back on track, playing Edwards early and getting him 10-15 carries a game would be a good start.
