1. D.J. Uiagalelei, QB

It takes a special player to replicate the impact that quarterback Trevor Lawrence brought to the Tigers. It wasn’t long ago that Lawrence was asked to replicate the same impact that Deshaun Watson brought to Clemson’s offense a few seasons before him. Now it is time for sophomore D.J. Uiagalelei to take over as the starting quarterback for the Tigers.

Uiagalelei was recruited as one of the five five-star prospects in the Tigers’ 2020 recruiting class along with Bryan Bresee. He was brought in to be the heir of the quarterback position after Lawrence would leave for the NFL draft. Tiger Nation and the world got to get an early look at Uiagalelei when Lawrence had to miss two games due to his COVID-19 diagnosis.

In his first start for the Tigers against the Boston College Eagles, Uiagalelei threw for 342 yards, two touchdowns and he had a quarterback rating of 159.3. One game later at Notre Dame, Uiagalelei threw for 439 yards, two touchdowns and had a quarterback rating of 164.7. The Tigers would lose to the Fighting Irish with a 47-40 in double overtime due to the inconsistent play from the defense and the offensive line late in the game. He accounted for a rushing touchdown against Boston College and Notre Dame.

Uiagalelei was able to display his consistent throwing ability, his arm strength, ability to make the correct throws and his superior athleticism in two starts and limited play in garbage time. He will no doubt be one of the most evaluated players this college football season taking over Lawrence and leading the playoff-contending Tigers. He has the talent and potential to take over the Tigers’ high-powered offense.

Uiagalelei will also have a full spring semester to prepare efficiently to help his Tigers team bounce back from their early playoff loss.
