After another Big 12 title and season-ending winning streak, Oklahoma Football enters the 2021 season with momentum and championship dreams

After a tough September, Oklahoma Football looked like they were at risk of missing out on a trip to the Big 12 championship and Spencer Rattler looked like a freshman quarterback with little experience that forced too many mistakes.

At season’s end, Oklahoma was the hottest team in the country not named Alabama and the program claimed its sixth consecutive Big 12 championship and won the Cotton Bowl in a blowout over Florida. Now, Oklahoma has aspirations to get back to the college football playoff and finally break-through and win a national championship for the first time since 2000.

There are lots of reasons to be optimistic about Oklahoma, but it all starts with quarterback Spencer Rattler and what might be the best offense in the country.

Oklahoma has what I think might be one of, if not the best, wide receiver group in the country, led by Marvin Mims and Jadon Haselwood. Kennedy Brooks is set to return and will look to give the offense balance with a strong running game. The offensive line will need a rebound season after being a letdown a year ago, but the Sooners usually reload up front.

Oklahoma grew significantly on defense last season and there is hope that that growth will continue. The pass rush will need to replace Ronnie Perkins up front, but the defense returns most of their talented playmakers. If Oklahoma can keep improving on defense, a national title is within reach.

The schedule in 2021 is not the toughest that it has ever been under Lincoln Riley. The Sooners main challenger in the Big 12 will once again be Iowa State, who beat the Sooners last season before falling in the Big 12 championship game. Texas is hoping that Steve Sarkisian can get the program back on track, but it is unknown whether that will happen this year.

I expect a big season from the Sooners and a return to the playoff in 2021. Here are my way too early predictions for Oklahoma’s 2021 schedule.
