With a couple of months left until the NFL draft, which teams would be considered ideal landing spots for Ohio State football star Justin Fields?

Justin Fields had himself one heck of a college career. After transferring over from Georgia before the 2019 season, Fields went off for 41 touchdown passes and three interceptions.

How could the talented dual-threat possibly top that in 2020? In about half the games, he passed for 2,100 yards, 22 touchdowns and six picks. He improved his completion percentage and yards per attempt and he rushed for nearly 400 yards and five touchdowns. He did all this while leading the Buckeyes to the national title game.

Fields had quite the two-year stretch for Ohio State and now he’s considered either the No. 2 or No. 3 quarterback in the 2021 NFL Draft class, depending on who you listen to.

But what NFL teams would be the best, and most realistic, fits for him in the upcoming draft?

3. Detroit Lions (No. 7)

I know what you’re thinking, this would be a career-ender for any top player, right? I mean, the Lions did cut the careers of Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson short and a top-tier passer like Matthew Stafford’s career was wasted in Detroit because he was barely given enough help. The organization may not be the greatest, but with a change in the front office, hope is restored.

Not just that, but Justin Fields would be the ideal fit for the future and wouldn’t need to start from day one. But the need for a franchise quarterback is still there.

Detroit just traded Stafford to the Rams for Jared Goff and some draft picks and while that may seem like a long-term fix because the latter is still young, it seems to be just a duct tape fix to hold the Lions over for another year, or so. I’d be shocked if Goff is there for the long-run.

In that case, Fields could come in and learn the ropes for a year and then take over in 2022 with some solid weapons on offense like D’Andre Swift, TJ Hockenson and Kenny Golladay (assuming he re-signs). Not a bad spot for a young quarterback.
