36. Best SEC football players of all time: Kevin Faulk, LSU football

A product of Lafayette (LA) High School where he was an All-American, Kevin Faulk arrived at LSU ready to take over as the feature back. A starter immediately with the Tigers, Faulk put together one of the more explosive careers of any running back ever to play SEC football.

As a sophomore, Faulk really burst onto the scene, rushing for nearly 1,300 yards and 13 touchdowns en route to being named an All-American. The following season, Faulk found the end zone 15 times, again eclipsing the 1,000-yard barrier. He wrapped up his career by rushing for nearly 1,300 yards once again, cementing his place in SEC football history.

All told, Faulk finished his career behind only Herschel Walker in terms of rushing yards, and first in SEC history in both all-purpose yards and touchdowns. He is still LSU’s all-time leading rusher to this date, currently serving on staff for the Tigers as their running back coach.

He could do it all, named the SEC Freshman of the Year, a three-time All-SEC player, and would end up being drafted in the second round by the New England Patriots. With the Pats, Faulk was a cog in three Super Bowl-winning teams, finishing his career No. 1 in franchise history in all-purpose yards.
