22. Best SEC football players of all time: Tommy Casanova, LSU football

Tommy Casanova was from the state of Louisiana, so it made sense that he would play his college ball for the LSU Tigers. A do-everything player for the LSU football program, Casanova was actually a running back as a freshman, but once he got promoted to the varsity as a sophomore, he made the move to cornerback.

To say that Casanova became a good college football player would be an understatement, as he ended up having a record-breaking career for the Tigers. He was the kind of player who could make an impact all over the field, and he made an impact immediately as a sophomore, being named an All-American in his first season on varsity.

A tremendous career ensued in which he was named an All-American three times, becoming the only LSU player who has ever accomplished that feat. He was also one of only six players in LSU football history to be named All-SEC three times, proving to be a turnover machine for the Tigers, and a cover boy for Sports Illustrated.

A member of the College Football Hall of Fame, Casanova was once regarded as the best player in college football and would go on to be a second-round pick in the NFL. He went to three Pro Bowls at the professional level, but it was his work at LSU that lands him on our list, as he became a Louisiana legend as a star for the LSU Tigers.
