Quite possibly the top target on LSU’s board right now, Shemar Stewart is one of those must-have prospects for the Tigers and you can bet Ed Orgeron is going to fight this one out until early signing day and beyond.

The Opa Locka, Fla., prospect is the No. 5 recruit in the country and he’s also listed as the No. 1 strong-side defensive end by the composite. He’s also Florida’s top recruit which is impressive given how many elite prospects come from the Sunshine State. Heck, 247Sports is even more bullish on him, ranking him the No. 2 prospect in the entire country.

If LSU wants that mean defense back that it had a few years ago, it’ll need Stewart to be part of that 2022 class. Right now, LSU looks like the early leader, but don’t sleep on Clemson, Georgia or Miami. This recruitment is going to be a heck of a battle.

Stewart is the type of talent that could start day one at most programs and even at LSU he could have an immediate impact. He could help turn this defense around.

If I’m LSU, this is my No. 1 priority in the 2022 class.
