Much of Florida State football’s success in 2021 could depend on the health of quarterback McKenzie Milton but so far so good for the Seminoles.

As far as teams that landed quarterbacks in the transfer portal, very teams are likely as excited about their haul as Florida State football which landed McKenzie Milton, the former UCF star.

Of course, Milton was hurt back in 2018 and didn’t play in 2019 or 2020. However, when he was healthy, he led UCF to an undefeated season and a win in the Peach Bowl, as well as some prolific all-around numbers.

In 2017, Milton threw 37 touchdown passes compared to just nine interceptions and the next season, he had 25 touchdowns compared to just six picks before he was hurt.

Milton suffered a major knee injury and it’s one he’s still working on returning from but according to Florida State head coach Mike Norvell, Milton is looking good in winter conditioning. Here’s what Norvell said via 247 sports:

"“I’ve got a chance to see him in the weight room, obviously, the agility work that we’re doing and he’s doing a wonderful job,” Norvell said Tuesday on the Chuck Oliver Show. “Really, also just the relationship building, getting to know the guys who’ve been here and been a part of this program. Building those relationships. It’s been a fun transition. McKenzie looks great, he’s moving really well and excited about spring practice coming.”"

While health was a big focus and will draw some headlines, if you look at what Norvell said about the way players are gravitating towards Milton as a leader, it makes you think that the starting quarterback job is his to lose as long as he is healthy enough to play.

“Guys really gravitate towards him,” Norvell said.

After a 2-6 season and more musical chairs at the quarterback position, Milton winning the job could be the best scenario for Florida State, which will also have Jordan Travis back in the mix after he threw six touchdowns and six interceptions in eight games last season.

There has also been talk of Florida State possibly pursuing former Michigan starter Joe Milton, a former four-star quarterback out of Florida. He’s got a lot of potential, but if McKenzie Milton is ready to go, the Noles should roll with him while they look to the future at the quarterback position.
