After watching Deion Sanders coach his first game, is Florida State football going to wish that he was the Seminoles head coach?

Deion Sanders was always good at garnering the spotlight. Whether it was during his playing days for Florida State football, in the NFL or now as the head coach of Jackson State.

Last week, during his first game as head coach with Jackson State, his team notched a 53-0 victory over Edwards Waters. If you haven’t heard of that program before, you aren’t alone.

However, Sanders has shown some other impressive chops since taking the job and even though he’s coaching at an FCS program, Jackson State’s 2021 recruiting class ranked No. 84 in the 247 sports composite rankings, which proves what we all expected — Prime can recruit.

Obviously, one game against some very weak competition doesn’t make a coaching career, but it’s going to be fun to see what Sanders is able to do at the FCS level.

And after he interviewed for the job with Florida State football, a school where he was a star, it wouldn’t be shocking for him to become a candidate there once again.

In fact, you wonder if the Seminoles already wish they had hired Deion Sanders following the disappointing 2-6 campaign in the first year under Mike Norvell.

For his part, here’s what Sanders said about his interest in the Florida State job during a recent ESPN podcast with Keyshawn Johnson. Here’s what he said via 247 sports:

"“Florida State was one of the ones that I interviewed for last year, one of the big two. And Keyshawn let me tell you I knocked it out of the park. You’ve got to understand, I’m getting ready to recruit in the state of Florida and presented them with a wonderful scenario, but God didn’t see fit for me to have that. So i’m here and I’m happy and I’m elated. So I’m not even thinking about tomorrow. I’m trying to dominate today.”"

It’s true that Sanders didn’t necessarily have the experience to be a head coach at a place like Florida State, but the man can certainly recruit. He also doesn’t lack confidence as you will note he told Keyshawn he “knocked it out of the park” in his interview.

Kids know the name of Deion Sanders and if he can sell kids on playing for him at Jackson State, I would certainly believe he could do the same for Florida State.

And unless Norvell is able to turn things around in the next year or two, he will quickly find himself unemployed and Florida State football could be knocking on Deion Sanders’ door.
