Clemson Football: Tigers are favorite after new offer to 4-star QB
After Clemson football failed to land five-star quarterback Ty Simpson, the Tigers acted quickly with a new offer to a 2022 quarterback Cade Klubnik.
It must be nice to be Clemson football because after losing out on the commitment of five-star quarterback recruit Ty Simpson to Alabama on Friday, it didn’t take long for the Tigers to become the favorite for another top-100 signal-caller.
Clemson did seem like the favorite for Simpson, who is the No. 3 pro-style passer in the 2022 class. Yet, a late push by Nick Saban and Alabama landed him with the Crimson Tide.
That was definitely a hit for the Tigers, who were hoping to bring in the No. 27 ranked player in the 2022 class. But no matter, cause the Tigers have zeroed in on a new quarterback as they extended an offer to Cade Klubnik on Friday.
Klubnik is another pro-style quarterback and he’s ranked fifth at the position according to the 247 sports composite rankings. The 6-foot-2 passer is out of Austin, Texas. However, it was clear that he was hoping for a Clemson offer and after the Tigers missed on Simpson, it finally came.
Essentially, once the offer came in, the crystal ball projections from 247 sports, predicting him to commit to the Tigers were almost instant.
Klubnik now has five crystal ball picks that project him to wind up with Clemson football including a pick from Steve Wiltfong of 247 sports with a confidence level of seven on a scale of 1-10.
While the Texas quarterback has always been ranked as a solid four-star recruit, his ranking took a big jump forward in the latest rankings release from 247 sports. 247 bumped him from outside the top 200 to 99th overall and his ranking in the 247 composite rankings went up from 155th overall to 74th. Here’s a look at his scouting report via Gabe Brooks of 247:
"“Highly productive QB vs. TXHSFB 6A competition. Throws with an overhead release and generally stays on top of the ball. Comfortable in the pocket and off-schedule situations. Competent as an improvisational QB. Shows throw-on-the-run capability to multiple levels. Pro-style QB but mobile enough to keep defenses honest. Displays good velocity to the middle of the field, especially when footwork is consistent.”"
The fact that the Tigers are able to get in on the recruitment of a top-100 quarterback and become the odds-on favorite in a day tells you all you need to know about college football right now.
When it comes to the quarterback position, Alabama and Clemson get the pick of the litter and that’s one of the biggest differences between the elite programs and everybody else.
