Big 12 Football: 50 best players of all-time

Big 12 Football best players of all-time: 39. Jammal Brown, OL, Oklahoma football
From one Oklahoma offensive lineman to another. As good as Orlando Brown, Jr. was, he comes in just behind Jammal Brown who was with the Sooners from 2001 through 2004. During that span, he won the John Outland Award and was a Consensus All-American — which is even more impressive when you consider that he originally joined Oklahoma as a defensive tackle and switched positions as a redshirt freshman.
Brown was a standout in the running game where he mauled defenders with ease. According to SoonerSports.com, he was credited with 80 pancake blocks while being charged with just one interception during his sophomore season — where he played right tackle. He paved the way for running back Quentin Griffin to gain 1,884 yards that season.
Then as a junior, Sooner Sports says he had 127 knockdowns and only one sack allowed all season. He was the top lineman once again for Oklahoma but saved his best season for last.
In 2004, he was there to open holes for Adrian Peterson while helping Jason White stay upright. Those two got the Heisman votes but Brown deserves as much credit as anyone. He was an integral part of their Big 12 Championship win and not only did he floor 130 players while blocking them, but he gave up no sacks or quarterback pressures all season.
Brown was a first-round pick in the 2005 NFL Draft and played five seasons with the New Orleans Saints where he made two Pro Bowls and won a Super Bowl ring. He then spent three seasons with the Washington Football Team before retiring after the 2012 season.
