Big 12 Football best players of all-time: 36. CeeDee Lamb, WR, Oklahoma football
One of the more recent NFL Draft Picks to make this list, CeeDee Lamb put together three fantastic seasons for the Oklahoma Sooners. He had plenty of help though, playing for three amazing quarterbacks — two of which won the Heisman and then went on to be No. 1 overall picks in the NFL.
Baker Mayfield was Lamb’s quarterback in 2017 and the freshman wideout had 46 receptions for 807 yards with seven touchdowns. He showed off his ability to get deep that season by averaging 17.5 yards per catch, which ended up being the lowest average of his career.
His second season featured Kyler Murray under center and Lamb increased in every category, grabbing 65 receptions for 1,158 yards and 11 touchdowns while averaging 17.8 per catch. Then as a junior, he had an impressive 21.4 yards per grab while scoring 14 touchdowns on 62 receptions for 1,327 yards.
Lamb was given Second-Team All-Big 12 honors in 2018 but then followed it up with a First-Team nod the next season, all while earning a spot as a Consensus All-American. What was most impressive about his play was how he had such a good rapport with every quarterback despite not being able to work with them for more than one season as the starter.
That adaptability helped him quite a bit as a rookie in the NFL. Lamb was taken 17th overall by the Dallas Cowboys and went through four quarterbacks during his rookie campaign. Dak Prescott was lost due to a broken ankle and Andy Dalton missed time with a concussion and COVID-19. With him out, there was one game with Ben DiNucci and another with Garrett Gilbert.
Even with this turmoil, Lamb had 935 yards and five touchdowns on 74 receptions. He’s one of the best at his position and went down as one of the greats for the Sooners.
